Welcome

Caroline Swinburne is a musician, piano teacher and writer of music-themed fiction.

She studied music and joined the BBC where she worked briefly for Radio 3 before getting side-tracked by speech radio. For the next two decades she worked as an independent feature maker for Radio 4 and World Service before re-training as a music therapist and piano teacher.

Caroline holds the LTCL diploma in piano performance and the Cert PTC in piano pedagogy. She also has a BA (Hons) in Music, an M Mus in Music Analysis and an MA in Music Therapy. She is a full member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians, and the European Piano Teaching Association (EPTA). She offers face-to-face piano tuition to adults, from beginners to diploma level, from her studio in southeast London.

In 2022, Caroline successfully completed the selective Faber Academy course, and subsequently worked with mentors Shelley Weiner and Emma Darwin to write two music-themed novels. Her debut, Solo, was published by The Book Guild in September 2025; her second novel, Khrushchev’s Piano, is due for release on November 28th 2026.
